  1. This is the FAXHAVEN Configuration Setup screen help file (FHCONFIG.hlp).

  3. You can get a hard copy of this file by entering "Print FHCONFIG.hlp".

  5. The configuration function should only be invoked when you wish to modify the
  6. standard FAXHAVEN configuration. FAXHAVEN is capable of running stand-alone,
  7. providing complete FAX receive and send function.  FAXHAVEN is also capable
  8. of running on top of many of the modem software packages which come with FAX
  9. modems. These software packages are: BITFAX, Complete PC, FRecom & Quick-Link.
  10. When operating in this mode, FAXHAVEN adds some features and provides a
  11. management layer, making FAX receive functions function-key driven.
  12. FAXHAVEN is not compatible with Quick-Link ver. 3.0 and above
  13.

  16. ========================= Function Keys =======================================
  17. <ENTER>       is *NOT* an event key. It behaves like <TAB>.
  18. <TAB>         positions the cursor to the next field.
  19. <shift><TAB>  positions the cursor to the previous field.
  20.  
  21. <F1>  will display this help file.
  22.  
  23. <F2>  will load the default settings for your FAX modem or modem software
  24.       from disk, and save them as the active configuration.  If you have
  25.       changed the default setting for the FAX modem class/software, you must
  26.       be sure that the modem software which you employ is properly installed
  27.       and functioning.
  28.  
  29. <F3>  will verify your input before proceeding.  This is useful when you have
  30.       entered any change to the configuration.
  31.  
  32. <F9>  will restore the current settings from disk in case you have made an
  33.       error.
  34. <F10> will verify input and save to disk the current screen settings, if the
  35.       input is error-free.
  36. <shift><F10> will save to disk the current screen settings, even if there are
  37.       errors.  Results may be unreliable, but it may be useful to save the
  38.       screen before correcting errors.

  40. <ESC> will exit this function and return to the FAXHAVEN main menu.

  42. ===================== Configuration Input Fields ==============================
  43. REGISTRATION KEY:
  44. Enter your 7-digit registration key if you are a registered user.
  45.  
  46. FAX MODEM CLASS//MODEM SOFTWARE
  47. If you wish to have the software which came with your FAX modem drive the
  48. modem, identify the software here. You may wish to use some feature of your
  49. existing DOS-based modem software, and use FAXHAVEN for other functions.
  50. The following choices are available: BF(Bitfax), CP(Complete PC),
  51. FR(Frecom FAX96), and QL(Quick-Link). If you change the modem software you will
  52. use, you must be sure that this software is installed and functioning.
  53. After changing this field, you must enter <F2> to retrieve the default settings
  54. for the modem software you specified.  See <F2> above.
  55.  
  56. COMM PORT
  57. If you have not changed the modem software above, and you know the comm port
  58. that your modem is connected to, you may enter this number here. Otherwise
  59. FAXHAVEN will detect the correct comm port when you activate FAX receive.
  60. You may wish to update this field after FAXHAVEN has detected the correct
  61. comm port.

  63. VIDEO TYPE
  64. You may need to tell FAXHAVEN what type of video monitor you have, if
  65. auto-detect fails or if you have a high-end monitor. The choices are:
  66. HERC = HERCules, monochrome, screen size  720 X 348
  67. CGA  = CGA,      16 color,   screen size  640 X 200
  68. EGA  = EGA,      16 color,   screen size  640 X 350
  69. VGA  = VGA,      16 color,   screen size  640 X 480
  70. SVGA = Super VGA,16 color,   screen size  800 X 600
  71. HIGH = HIGH res, 16 color,   screen size 1024 X 768

  73. FAX RECEIVE DIRECTORY
  74. If you have changed the modem software field, and  your modem software is not
  75. installed in it's own default directory, you must update this field with the
  76. correct directory. Otherwise it should be left alone.

  78. RECEIVE FILE EXTENSION
  79. This field should be left alone.

  81. SEND OPTIONS
  82. If you are not using FAXHAVEN provided modem software, consult your modem
  83. software manual for any useful options here.
  84. If you are using FAXHAVEN provided software, a set of options for driving the
  85. FAX modem is available, as follows:
  86. /IDxxxxxxxxxxx   Set the Station ID of the sending FAX station
  87. /IRQx            Set Interrupt Request Line (1 - 5 )
  88. /BDxxxxxxx       Set the port baud rate (4800, 7200, 9600, 19200 the default)
  89. /LOxxxxxx        Set the low baud rate (4800, 7200, 9600, 19200 the default)
  90. /XBPSxxxxxxx     Set the FAX bit per second rate (2400, 4800, 7200, 9600 the
  91.                  default, 12000, 14400)
  92. /MIxxxxxxxxxx    Set a modem initialization string
  93. /HI              Use highest possible bit rate and ECM (Error Correcting Mode)
  94.                  if available.

  96. ACTIVATE RECEIVE:
  97. This field should only be changed if you have changed the modem software field
  98. above. You would only need to modify this field if your modem software is not
  99. in it's default directory, or you wish to use invoke the receive function a
  100. different way, such as through a batch file. If you are using the Quick-Link
  101. product and you wish to use NITEFAX to receive and print your incoming FAXes,
  102. you may replace the activate command with NITEFAX.

  104. RECEIVE OPTIONS
  105. If you are not using FAXHAVEN provided modem software, consult your modem
  106. software manual for any useful options here.
  107. If you are using FAXHAVEN provided modem software, a set of options for driving
  108. the FAX modem is available, as follows:
  109. /IRQx            Set Interrupt ReQuest Line (1 - 5 )
  110. /BDnnnnn         Set the port baud rate (4800, 7200, 9600, 19200 the default)
  111. /LOnnnnn         Set the low baud rate (4800, 7200, 9600, 19200 the default)

  117. DEACTIVATE RECEIVE
  118. If you are using FAXHAVEN modem software, this field should be left alone.
  119. This field should only be changed if you have changed the modem software field
  120. above. You would only need to modify this field if your modem software is not
  121. in it's default directory, or you wish to use invoke the receive function a
  122. different way, such as through a batch file.

  124. PRINT COMMAND
  125. If you use your out-of-the-box modem software to receive FAXes, and you wish to
  126. use their software to print received FAXes, you may enter that print command
  127. here.  This will only be necessary if your printer is not an HP-Laserjet, Epson
  128. or Qume printer (or a printer which emulates one of these models).  Your modem
  129. software must be configured for your printer.
  130. ATTENTION!! Be sure to include the text "[FILE]" after the program name to
  131. indicate where the received FAX filename will be substituted!
  132.  
  133. PRINT DEVICE
  134. If you are using FAXHAVEN to print FAXes, enter your Printer port here.
  135. Valid choices are: LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4.
  136. You should not change the default of LPT1 unless you are sure.
  137.  
  138. PRINTER TYPE
  139. If you are using FAXHAVEN to receve and print FAXes, identify your printer here.
  140. You may need to adjust toggle switches on your printer to emulate one of the
  141. following printers.
  142. ECL  indicates an Epson-LQ or compatible.
  143. EFX  indicates an Epson-FX or compatible.
  144. ELQ  indicates an Epson-LQ or compatible.
  145. IBM  indicates an IBM 24-pin Pro-printer
  146. NEC  indicates an NEC 24-pin pin-writer
  147. PCL  indicates an HP-Laserjet or compatible.
  148. PRO  indicates a IBM 24-pin Pro-printer
  149. QUM  indicates a QUMe printer or compatible, such as a Toshiba P321.
  150.      Qume format has been verified only with the author's Toshiba P321.

  152. GRAPHIC CONVERT COMMAND
  153. If you wish to use your out-of-the-box modem software or some other utility to
  154. convert received FAXes to some other graphic format, you may enter it here.
  155. This will also override the default-export-format below, as you will not be
  156. using the FAXHAVEN Convert program.
  157. ATTENTION!! Be sure to include the text "[FILE]" after the program name to
  158. indicate where the received FAX filename will be substituted!

  160. GRAPHIC OUTPUT DIRECTORY
  161. You may store your converted images in any existing directory you wish.
  162. Indicate that directory here.
  163.  
  164. DEFAULT EXPORT FORMAT
  165. This is the graphic format that your received FAXes will be converted to when
  166. you request a graphic conversion.  The configured default-export-format is PCX.
  167. This can be overridden on the configuration
  168. screen with another graphic format.  Whatever default-export-format is config-
  169. ured can be overidden when the conversion is requested on a file-by-file basis.
  170. The available graphic formats are:
  171. BFX (BITFAX proprietary format)
  172. DCX
  173. PCX
  174. QFX (Quick-Link proprietary format)
  175. TIF (TIFF Class B packbits compression)
  176. TFB (TIFF Class B packbits compression)
  177. TFF (TIFF Class F)
  178. TFH (TIFF Class B Huffman Encoding)
  179. TFU (TIFF Class B Uncompressed)

  181. ARCHIVE OUTPUT DIRECTORY
  182. You may store your archived FAXes in any existing directory you wish.
